How Does Commit to Quit Work?
Here are some frequently asked questions people have about Commit to Quit.
Why is this free?
When you use tobacco, you’re more likely to get sick, which costs your employer money. Secondhand smoke can also make other people sick, which costs even more money. Insurers, including Medicaid and Medicare end up paying millions of dollars to treat diseases caused by smoking. So rather than spend that money on hospital bills, we’re trying to help people quit to avoid costly health consequences. It’s a win-win.
What if my insurance doesn’t cover the program?
If your insurance does not cover the program, you are still eligible to sign up and use all of the services. The Tobacco and Health Trust Fund will cover the cost for you to participate.
What if I prefer to attend classes or sessions in person?
There are face-to-face programs available in some areas for either no or low cost. Follow this link to see the options: Connecticut Community Tobacco Cessation Programs
Are the cessation support tools available for any tobacco product?
Yes. The program helps with cigarettes, cigars, chew, dip, vaping, and any other tobacco products that someone wants to quit.
What happens if I have a slip up?
We get it, slip ups happen. A slip up doesn’t get you removed from the program. You still have access to all of the services and can talk to your quit coach. Don’t let a slip up derail your progress. Instead, contact your coach and work together to figure out what caused the slip up and how to avoid it in the future.
Why just 2 weeks?
Commit to Quit will continue to support you as long as it takes. However, we can only give you two weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). After two weeks you are welcome to get more NRT on your own, but a lot of people don’t need more than two weeks. We will never try to sell you more or charge you anything after the two weeks- we don't sell anything. Many people already have insurance coverage for these medications. Check with your insurance company to see what additional benefits may be offered to you.
Will I be able to talk to the same quit coach each time?
We will do our best to connect you with the same quit coach each time. You can always request the same person, but we can’t guarantee this because they may already be on the line with another person when you call or may not be working at the time you call.
What kind of services do I receive for enrolling?
When you enroll you will receive free coaching sessions with a quit coach, a personalized quit plan, a quit guide, 24/7 access to quit coaches via phone and text, two weeks of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products at no cost, email support, and a welcome kit.
